On this site are the qualifying standards and entry information for the 2013 PIAA District VI "AA" and "AAA" Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving Championships to be held at the Penn State University Natatorium on March 1 and March 2, 2012. 

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET DATES:

The District VI Swimming and Diving Championships for both "AA" and "AAA" will be held during a two day Swimming and Diving Championship on Friday March 1 and Saturday, March 2, 2013.

MEET FORMAT:  All swimming events will be timed final events.  For each event we will swim AAA Girls heats, AAA Boys heats, AA Girls heats, and AA Boys heats.  Diving events will be eleven dive championship format events with cuts as necessary.  The order of swimming events will follow the state championship meet format.

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS AND LIMITS: For all swimming events except the 500 Yard Freestyle, each school will be allowed to enter athletes in accordance with the following guide lines:

A maximum of four (4) swimmers per individual event providing all four (4) swimmers meet the qualifying time. 

If a PIAA sponsoring school has no swimmers meeting the qualifying time, that school is allowed to enter two (2) swimmers with any seedtime.  If a sponsoring school has one (1) swimmer meeting the qualifying time, that school may enter one (1) additional swimmer with any seedtime. 

If a sponsoring school has two (2) or three (3) swimmers meeting the qualifying time, that school may not enter any additional swimmers.

Only those swimmers meeting the qualifying standard in the 500 Yard Freestyle will be allowed to compete.

"AA" and "AAA" qualifying times are included with this packet.  In accordance with PIAA Rules and Regulations, swimmers from schools that do not sponsor swimming must meet the qualifying times in order to participate. 

Each swimmer may enter a maximum of four (4) events, no more than two (2) of which may be individual events. 

Each school that sponsors swimming will be permitted to enter one (1) relay team per relay event.  Eight (8) names may be listed for each relay and any four (4) may swim.  The relay will not count as an event for those listed but not swimming. A maximum of four (4) girl divers and four (4) boy divers per school can be entered in the respective diving championship meets. 

DIVING ENTRIES:  All entries for the diving championships must be completed online.  Diving positions will be randomly assigned by the computer.  

The diving rounds must consist of the following:

Preliminary Round:     2 Voluntary Dives & 3 Optional Dives

Semi-Final Round:      2 Voluntary Dives & 1 Optional Dive (NOTE:  Dives from all five groups must be included by round 8.)

Final Round:               1 Voluntary Dive & 2 Optional Dives

 

ENTRY (REGISTRATION) PROCEDURES:  Entries for the District 6 Swimming and Diving Championships will be done by sending a HYTEK Team Manager file with swimmer’s name, grade, school, event, and qualifying time to d69swim@comcast.net .  For those schools that do not have the Team Manager software an e-mail with the above information can be sent to d69swim@comcast.net .  All entries must be received by midnight on Wed. Feb. 20,2013.

 

ENTRY FEES:  All schools will be assessed an entry fee for participating in the District 6 Swimming & Diving Championships.  The fee schedule is $7/athlete with a minimum of $25 per school.  Schools should fill in and mail the attached "District 6 Swimming and Diving Entry Fees Form" by Friday, Feb. 23, 2013.

SCORING:  Team championship scoring will be based on 12 places per event.  Points will be awarded according to the National Federation Rules.  Schools that do not sponsor swimming according to the PIAA regulations will not be included in the team scoring.  Individuals of non-sponsoring schools will be eligible for awards. 

 

AWARDS:  In both "AA" and "AAA", individual medals will be awarded to the first (1st) through third (3rd) place finishers in the individual and relay events.  Ribbons will be awarded to the fourth (4th) through sixth (6th) place finishers in individual events.

There will be multiple award ceremonies during the meet (see attached time schedule).  At those designated times, awards to the top six (6) finishers in individual events and the top three relay teams will be presented.  Please have your athletes dress in your school-issued warm-ups for the awards presentation.

 

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS:

The 2013 PIAA State Championship meet will be held at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.  The "AA" competition will take place on Wednesday, Mar. 13 and Thursday, March 14, 2013.   The"AAA" will take place on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, Mar. 16, 2013.

 

The number of automatic advancers from the Regional Championship to the PIAA State Championship will be as follows:

AA Girls’ Diving:  Top (1) finisher.

AA Boys’ Diving:  Top (1) finisher.

AAA Girls’ Diving:  Top (2) finishers.

AAA Boys’ Diving:  Top (1) finisher.

AA Girls’ Swimming:  Top one (1) finisher/relay team in each event.

AA Boys’ Swimming:  Top one (1) finisher/relay team in each event.

AAA Girls’ Swimming:  Top (1) finisher/relay team in each event.

AAA Boys’ Swimming:  Top (1) finisher/relay team in each event.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE - Additional State Qualifiers in Swimming:  In addition to the automatic qualifiers from the Districts/Regions, the 16 fastest individual swimming event entries and the 8 fastest relay event entries on a statewide basis, who did not receive automatic qualifiers, will advance to the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships.  The entry times for this purpose will be the times swum at the PIAA District/Region qualifying meets.

 

ADMISSION PRICES:  Admission to the Regional Championships will be $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for students per day.

 

FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE:

A food concession will be open throughout the meet operated by Penn State University.

A complete set of results will be posted on the PIAA District 6 website immediately following the conclusion of the meet.

Photographs of place winners will be taken for each event.  They can be purchased at the meet courtesy of State College Area High School Swimming and Diving Boosters.  Forms for purchasing these pictures will be available at the meet.

District 6 Swimming & Diving Championship T-shirts may be ordered in advance using the enclosed "District 6 Swimming & Diving Championships T-shirt Order Form".

 

LOCKER ROOMS:  Locker rooms are available at Penn State University Natatorium.  Due to the large number of participants, athletes are encouraged to bring their own lock to secure their valuables or bring their belongings onto the deck.  Do not leave valuables unsecured.

 

PARKING:  Parking will be available on both Friday and Saturday at the East Parking Deck on Bigler Road, just north of Curtin Road at a cost of $5/day.  Buses should unload swimmers on Bigler or Curtin and may park at the Porter North Parking Lot, just north of the baseball field.

 

IMPORTANT DATES:

Mid-January: Schools may begin entering athletes online.  

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at Midnight:  Entry deadline.  No entries will be accepted after this deadline.

Sunday February 25, 2013:  "Psych" (performance) sheet posted on the District 6 website.

Monday February 26, 2013: Psych sheet corrections due by Mid-Night

Friday, March 1, 2013:  "AA & AAA" District VI Swimming Championships at Penn State University.   

Saturday, March 2, 2013:  "AA & AAA" District VI Swimming and "AA" and "AAA"  Diving  Championships at Penn State University.  . 

Friday & Saturday March 15 & 16, 2013:  The 2013 PIAA State "AAA" Championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg. 

Wednesday & Thursday  March 13 & 14, 2013:  The 2013 PIAA State "AA" Championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.
