Regular Meeting of PIAA District 6 – March 23, 2004

 

Call to Order of the March 23, 2004 Meeting

Chairman Wotkowski called the meeting of the District 6 Committee to order at 4:00 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School. Present were: Ray Wotkowski, Albert D’Ambrosia, Dean Rossi, Michael Sakash, Charles Koren, David Heim, David Crumrine, Don Hosterman, Jules Dill, Alberta Ake, Kathy Getz, Thomas Kakabar, Vince Nedimyer, Susan Werner, Kim Struble, and James Price.

 

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the February 12, 2004 meeting were approved on a motion by Jules Dill and Dean Rossi.

 

Communications

Kathy Getz and David Heim reviewed disqualification reports of basketball players.

 

Chairman Wotkowski informed the Committee that United High School was fined $100.00 for not attending the mandatory rules meeting

 

Chairman Wotkowski received a letter from Portage High School with a request to leave District 6 and apply for membership in District 5. After a discussion brought to motion by Don Hosterman and Michael Sakash the Committee voted unanimously to deny their request; Thomas Kakabar abstained from voting.

 

Financial Reports

On a motion by Don Hosterman and Alberta Ake, the Committee unanimously approved the February Financial Report. 

 

Eligibility Hearings

On a motion by Susan Werner and Michael Sakash, a 9th grade student at Bishop Carroll was granted eligibility for sports based on Article VI, Section 11A, Transfer and Residence; Charles Koren abstained from voting.

 

Foreign Exchange Eligibility Hearings

On a motion by Don Hosterman and Kim Struble, a foreign exchange student from Canada was granted eligibility to participate in sports at Bellwood Antis.

 

On a motion by Albert D’Ambrosia and Kathy Getz a foreign exchange student from Germany was granted eligibility to participate in sports at Bishop McCort.

 

On a motion by Susan Werner and Alberta Ake a foreign exchange student from Germany was granted eligibility to participate in sports at Claysburg-Kimmel.

 

On a motion by Vince Nedimyer and Dean Rossi a foreign exchange student from Korea was granted eligibility to participate in sports at Bishop Guilfoyle.

 

District 6 Sports Reports

Don Hosterman – Wrestling – The financial report for wrestling was approved on a motion by Charles Koren and David Heim.

 

Michael Sakash – Basketball – The financial report and payment for reimbursements to schools was approved on a motion by Don Hosterman and David Crumrine.

 

On a motion by Charles Koren and Albert D’Ambrosia the Committee accepted the revised football financial report and reimbursements to District 6 schools.

 

Susan Werner will have the Swimming and Diving financial report prepared for the April 13th meeting.

                       

Information

A proposal for a basketball ticket manager will be discussed at the June meeting. 

 

The June meeting date has been changed to Wednesday, June 16, 2004.

 

A discussion will be held at the annual meeting on April 13th regarding the sportsmanship awards for recommended senior and junior high athletes.

 

Due to the increase of teams in AA Wrestling Tournaments, Tony Yaniello, has made a proposal for two sectional tournaments.  The District 6 Committee will make a decision at the April meeting.

 

The Next Meeting

The next meeting of the PIAA District 6 Committee will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 4:00 PM at the Scotch Valley Country Club with the annual dinner to follow at 6:00 PM.
