Regular Meeting of PIAA District 6December 16, 2004

 

 

Call to Order of the December 16, 2004 Meeting

Chairman Wotkowski called the meeting of the District 6 Committee to order at 4:00 PM at the Scotch Valley Country Club.  Present were Committee members Ray Wotkowski, Albert D’Ambrosia, Dean Rossi, Michael Sakash, Don Hosterman, Vince Nedimyer, David Heim, Kathy Getz, Alberta Ake, Thomas Kakabar, Susan Werner, Kim Struble, David Crumrine, and James Price.

 

Approval of Minutes

Thomas Kakabar and Kathy Getz approved the minutes of the November 9, 2004, meeting.

 

Financial Reports

On a motion by Susan Werner and Vince Nedimyer, the Committee unanimously approved the November Financial Report.

 

On a motion made by Don Hosterman and Kim Struble, the Committee approved the Football Financial Report and football reimbursements prepared by Vince Nedimyer, Football Chairman, to reimburse District V and District VI Schools, with a vote of 14-0.

 

On a motion by Dean Rossi and David Heim, The Committee approved, a $1000.00 honorarium to be given to schools hosting football playoffs to help offset the costs not listed on the new PIAA Receipt and Event Summary Forms, with a vote of 14-0.

 

Kim Struble and Alberta Ake made a motion to approved the Soccer Financial Report prepared by Albert D’Ambrosia, Soccer Chairman, on a motion, with a 14-0 vote.

 

On a motion by Vince Nedimyer and Dean Rossi, the Field Hockey Financial Report, prepared by Kim Struble, was approved.

 

On a motion by Dean Rossi and David Crumrine, the Girls Volleyball Financial Report, presented by James Price, Girls Volleyball Chairman, was approved by the Committee.

 

Eligibility Hearings

Based on the consensus of the sending and receiving principals’ signatures these eligibility transfers were approved with the following motions:

 

On a motion by Michael Sakash and Albert D’Ambrosia, an eligibility hearing was held for Kevin Floyd, transferring from Altoona to Bishop Guilfoyle High School. Eligibility was granted for basketball based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8A with a vote of 12-0-2, Alberta Ake and Vince Nedimyer abstaining.

 

On a motion by David Crumrine and James Price, an eligibility hearing was held for Raivo Zutis, transferring from Northern Bedford to Altoona Area High School. Eligibility was granted for basketball based on Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8A with a vote of 12-2.

 

Dean Rossi and Michael Sakash made a motion to meet with representatives from State College High School, coaches, and guardians, as soon as possible, to determine the eligibility of KaRon Gaines.  KaRon Gaines is transferring from Lincoln High, MI, to State College wanting to participate in basketball.

 

On a motion by Michael Sakash and David Heim, an eligibility hearing was held for Dustin Banks, transferring from Huntingdon to Southern Huntingdon High School.  Eligibility was granted for wrestling based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8 with a vote of 13-0.

 

On a motion by Thomas Kakabar and James Price, an eligibility hearing was held for Michael Reale, transferring from Greensburg Central Catholic to Ligonier High School. Eligibility was granted for basketball and football based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8 with a vote of 13-0.

 

On a motion by Kathy Getz and Alberta Ake, an eligibility hearing was held for Carina Struble, transferring from Bellefonte to Bald Eagle Area High School. Eligibility was granted for basketball based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8 with a vote of 13-0.

 

On a motion by Kathy Getz and Susan Werner, an eligibility hearing was held for Nicholas Mackanick, transferring from Bishop Carroll to Blacklick High School.  Eligibility was granted for football and basketball based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8 with a vote of 13-0.

 

 

Review of Disqualifications

It has been brought to the attention of the  District 6 Committee that the PIAA Sportsmanship Code is not being promoted enough.  It is the intent that the PIAA Sportsmanship Code be emphasized aggressively among the schools.  Please see to it that your school actively cooperates.

Foreign Exchange Eligibility Hearings

On a motion by Susan Werner and Vince Nedimyer, the following foreign exchange students are eligible for athletics:

At the request of Eric Hovan, Tennis Chairman, a motion was made by Dean Rossi and David Heim to expand Singles and Doubles in Tennis.

 

Dean Rossi and Vince Nedimyer made a motion to sub-region with Districts 6, 9, and 10 in boys and girls AAAA basketball only.

 

Any District 6 school that has a regular league game scheduled during the first week of basketball playoffs are asked to contact Michael Sakash, Basketball Chairman.

 

The following people were approved as basketball evaluators:  Ronald Rickens, Father James Conrad, Richard Young, Mike Hudak, Joseph Lutz, and Louis Idzojtic.

 

On a motion by Michael Sakash and Vince Nedimyer, a Cooperative Sports Agreement was approved for boys and girls track and field between Saltsburg High School and Blairsville High School.

 

Blacklick Valley High School made a request to transfer to District 5 to participate in Single A Football only. 

 

The Next Meeting

The next meeting of the PIAA District 6 Committee will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2004 at 3:30 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School.

 

Addendum to December Meeting

 

Seven members of the District 6 Committee meet on December 20, 2004, to determine the eligibility of KaRon Gaines.  Present were:  Thomas Kakabar, Vince Nedimyer, Dean Rossi, David Heim, Don Hosterman, Michael Sakash and Ray Wotkowski. 

 

On a motion by Vince Nedimyer and Don Hosterman, KaRon Gaines, transferring from Lincoln High, MI, to State College Area High School.  KaRon is eligible to participate in basketball based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8 with a vote of 8-0.
