Regular Meeting of PIAA District 6 – October 5, 2004
Chairman Wotkowski called the meeting of the District 6 Committee to order at 3:30 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School. Present were Committee members Ray Wotkowski, Albert D’Ambrosia, Dean Rossi, Michael Sakash, Don Hosterman, Vince Nedimyer, Dave Heim, Gary Jubas, Alberta Ake, Thomas Kakabar, Susan Werner, Kim Struble, David Crumrine, Charles Koren, Craig Butler James Price, and Norman Krumenacker. Philip Cmor and Jason Wolf were also present.
Approval of Minutes
Norman Krumenacker and Susan Werner approved the minutes of the September 9, 2004, with the amendments that were discussed at the meeting.
Financial Reports
On a motion by Don Hosterman and Vince Nedimyer, the Committee unanimously approved the September Financial Report.
Barnes and Saly will be invited to the November meeting to go over the audit that was prepared for the District 6 PIAA Committee.
Eligibility Hearings
Based on the consensus of the sending and receiving principal’s signatures these eligibility transfers were approve with the following motions:
On a motion by David Crumrine and Albert D’Ambrosia an eligibility hearing was held for Jamie Rogers, transferring from Philipsburg-Osceola to Bishop Guilfoyle High School, eligibility was granted for basketball based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8A with a vote of 16-0-1, Charles Koren abstain.
On a motion by Thomas Kakabar and Don Hosterman an eligibility hearing was held for Steven St John, transferring from Altoona to Bishop Guilfoyle High School, eligibility was granted for basketball based on Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8A with a vote of 14-0-3, Vince Nedimyer, Alberta Ake, and Charles Koren abstain.
On a motion by Dean Rossi and Craig Butler an eligibility hearing was held for Lance Phillips, transferring from Altoona to Bishop Carroll High School, eligibility was granted for football based on Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8A with a vote of 14-0-3, Vince Nedimyer, Alberta Ake, and Charles Koren abstain.
On a motion by Norman Krumenacker and Alberta Ake an eligibility hearing was held for Sarah Cruikshank, transferring from Belleville Mennonite to Indian Valley High School, eligibility was granted for field hockey based on a waiver of Article VI, Transfer and Residence, Section 8 with a vote of 17-0.
On a motion by Michael Sakash and David Heim to appoint five Committee members to meet, as soon as possible, with Johnstown High School to determine the eligibility of Nicholas Kitner. Nicholas is transferring from Bishop McCort to Johnstown wanting to participate in football.
Demetrius Atwell, a State College student is eligible to participate in football. Mr. Wotkowski received the completed paperwork.
Review of Disqualifications
It has been brought to the District 6 Committee that the PIAA Sportsmanship Code is not being promoted enough. It is the intent that the PIAA Sportsmanship Code be emphasized aggressively among the schools. Please see to it that your school actively cooperates.

On a motion by Susan Werner and Vince Nedimyer, the following foreign exchange students are eligible for athletics:

Information

Included in the minutes are date revisions for softball, football, swimming and baseball. If you have any other questions regarding dates of tournaments, please contact the tournament director listed in your handbook.
Roger Herto, Ron Speicher, and Rick Keefer made an appeal to the District 6 Committee to allow the Mifflin County School District’s transfer to District 4. A presentation of pros/cons, economic analysis, and athletic expenses for 2003/04 was explained to the Committee. Gary Jubas made a motion and seconded by Vince Nedimyer to deny the transfer appeal of the MCSD to District 4, with a vote of 11-4, two members were absent. The District 6 Committee offered assistance and advice to the board and school district to help remedy their concerns.
There will be a football playoff meeting at the Altoona Area High School in the auditorium on Sunday, October 31, 2004, for the participating teams. Any questions contact Vince Nedimyer, football tournament director

All meets will be held at Clarion University, times to be announced.
The next meeting of the PIAA District 6 Committee will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 3:30 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School.
