Regular Meeting of PIAA District 6 – March 15, 2005
Call to Order of the March 15, 2005 Meeting
Chairman Wotkowski called the meeting of the District 6 Committee to order at 3:30 PM at the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School. Present were: Ray Wotkowski, Albert D’Ambrosia, Dean Rossi, Michael Sakash, Charles Koren, David Heim, David Crumrine, Michael Hudak, Kathy Getz, Susan Werner, Kim Struble, and Norman Krumenacker.
Charles Koren and Kim Struble approved the minutes of the February 10, 2005, meeting on a motion.
Communications
Chairman Wotkowski informed the Committee that two schools were fined $100.00 for not attending the mandatory rules meeting: Northern Cambria - wrestling and Bishop McCort - swimming and diving.
Chairman Wotkowski received a letter from Forbes Road with a requesting to participate in District 6 Field Hockey.
Chairman Wotkowski received a letter from Russell Strange, Superintendent at Penn Cambria. Motion was made by Norman Krumenacker and Charles Koren to accept the actions and letter from the superintendent. However, in the interest of sportsmanship and athletics, the District 6 Committee is requesting the following personnel attend the August meeting to discuss the athletic program at Penn Cambria: the new superintendent, principal, school board president or designee, and the athletic director.
Chairman Wotkowski received a letter from Charles Koren, Director of Education, Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, regarding the incident involving the Bishop Guilfoyle Girls Basketball team which occurred at the District 6 Championship game held on February 26, 2005. A motion was made by Norman Krumenacker and David Crumrine to accept the actions taken by Charles Koren. Mr. Koren has apologized for this occurrence and assured the District 6 Committee that this violation will not occur again.
Financial Reports
On a motion by Susan Werner and Kathy Getz, the Committee unanimously approved the February Financial Report. The committee denied payment for a wrestling tournament expense that was submitted by Tyrone High School pending additional information from Don Hosterman.
Eligibility Hearings
On a motion by Susan Werner and Norman Krumenacker, a 10th grade student at Bald Eagle Area was granted eligibility for sports based on Article VI, Section 11A, Transfer and Residence; Albert D’Ambrosia abstained from voting.
Review of Disqualifications
It has been brought to the attention of the District 6 Committee that the PIAA Sportsmanship Code is not being promoted enough. It is the intent that the PIAA Sportsmanship Code be emphasized aggressively among the schools. Please see to it that your school actively cooperates.

District 6 Sports Reports
Michael Sakash – Basketball – The financial report and payment for reimbursements to schools will be discussed at the April meeting.
Susan Werner indicated that the Swimming and Diving Championship went well. The District 6 Committee would like to thank District 9 for hosting the championships and for a job well done.
Don Hosterman – Wrestling – The financial report and payment for reimbursements to schools will be discussed at the April meeting.
Information
A discussion will be held at the annual meeting on April 12th regarding the sportsmanship awards for recommended senior and junior high athletes. If you think your school is deserving of this award please contact David Heim. Mr. Heim will also bring the guidelines for this award to the meeting.

District 6 Committee discussed the policy for students standing at basketball playoffs and recommended that the principal or site manager make that decision. If you have any questions on their policy please contact the school.
On March 30th, the District 6 Committee will meet at the Ebensburg Courthouse in the jury assembly room for the schedule hearings for Ferndale, Johnstown, and Penn Cambria.
The next meeting of the PIAA District 6 Committee will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2004 at 4:00 PM at the Scotch Valley Country Club with the annual dinner to follow at 6:00 PM. Please send in your reservations forms if planning to attend the dinner.
