Regular Meeting of PIAA District 6  - March 9, 2010

 

Call to Order of the March 9, 2010, Meeting

Chairman Wotkowski called the meeting of the District 6 Committee to order at 3:30 PM at the Altoona Area School Corporate Office Board Room. Present were: Raymond Wotkowski, Alberta Ake, Kenneth Bussard, Ralph Cecere Jr., Kim Hubler, Thomas Kakabar, Gary Jubas, Charles Glasser, David Crumrine, Donald Hosterman, Michael Hudak, William Marshall, James Price and Curtis Whitesel.

 

Approval of Minutes

On a motion by Curtis Whitesel and William Marshall, the minutes of the February 2, 2010 meeting were approved.

 

Financial Reports

On a motion by Thomas Kakabar and Kim Hubler, the Committee unanimously approved the February 2010 Financial Report.

 

On a motion by Curtis Whitesel and David Crumrine, the Committee approved the Girls Volleyball Financial Report presented by James Price.

 

On a motion by James Price and Kenneth Bussard, the Committee approved the Wrestling Financial Report presented by Donald Hosterman.

 

Sportsmanship  

Michael Hudak reviewed the below-listed disqualification forms.

Eligibility Hearings

On a motion by Gary Jubas and Alberta Ake, eligibility was granted to Kevin Mauk from Homer Center, based on Article VIII, Section 1, Period of Participation.  The vote was 15-0.

 

On a motion by Kim Hubler and Michael Hudak, eligibility was granted to Zachary Pritt transferring from Bishop McCort to Johnstown.  Zachary is eligible to participate in all sports by a vote of 16-0.

 

On a motion by James Price and William Marshall eligibility was granted to Alexandre Raine transferring from Kiski School to Bishop McCort.  Alexandre is eligible to participate in all sports by a vote of  16-0.

 

Foreign Exchange Eligibility Hearings

There were no foreign exchange eligibilities.

 

 

Communications

On a motion by James Price and David Crumrine, the Committee approved a request from Juniata County High School to transfer from District 3 to District 6 starting with the 2010-2011 school year.  The vote was 14-1.  District 3 voted unanimously to grant Juniata County High School’s request to transfer to District 6 as an initial step and the PIAA State Board of Directors will take official action at the March meeting.  

 

Chairman Wotkowski presented the Committee with a remediation draft for ticket management for the District 6 championships.

 

2009-2010 Sportsmanship Awards:  The District 6 Committee is requesting that each member school submit the names of one male and one female, senior athlete that exemplify outstanding sportsmanship.  Two male and two female athletes will be selected through a lottery drawing to receive one of four, five-hundred dollar scholarships from the District 6 Committee.  Schools will be provided with medals and may choose to present the awards, as they deem appropriate.  Please send the names of the athletes to Michael Hudak at 232 Suie Street, Johnstown, PA  15904 or submit by email at Michael.p.Hudak@usps.gov

 

“Sportsmanship, The only Missing Piece is You”

Please keep in mind that the PIAA state sportsmanship program, “Sportsmanship, The only Missing Piece is You” will continue to be supported by recognizing any senior high or middle school for leadership in developing sportsmanship in their programs.  Please send application for this award to Mike Hudak, along with a copy of your guidelines and policies.  A banner will be presented in recognition of any selected school. 

 

The Mandatory Annual dinner meeting for PIAA District 6 is scheduled for

April 22, 2010, at the Blair County Convention Center at 6:00 PM. 

* Please note that a $100.00 fine will be assessed to schools that are not represented.  Reservation forms have been sent and Ballots will be mailed on March 29, 2010.

 

The Next Meeting

The next meeting of the PIAA District 6 Committee will be held on

Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Blair County Convention Center at 6:00 PM.
